Bruno Takes Maguires place as the new captain of Manchester United

 


Bruno Fernandes has been confirmed as the new captain of Manchester United, replacing Harry Maguire. The Portuguese midfielder has been handed the armband on a permanent basis after wearing it on numerous occasions last season.

Fernandes was appointed captain on an interim basis in January 2023 after Maguire was dropped from the team by then-manager Ralf Rangnick. He has since led the team to 16 wins in 26 games, including a memorable victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old is a popular figure among the United fans and is seen as a natural leader. He is also a key player for the team, having scored 64 goals and provided 54 assists in 185 appearances since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2020.

Fernandes' appointment as captain is a sign of Erik ten Hag's faith in him. The new manager is looking to build a team around the midfielder and believes that he can be a key figure in the club's future success.

Fernandes is the first Portuguese player to captain Manchester United since Cristiano Ronaldo. He will be hoping to lead the team back to the top of English football in the years to come.

In other news, Manchester United have also confirmed the signing of goalkeeper André Onana. The Cameroonian international has joined the club from Ajax on a free transfer. Onana is a highly rated goalkeeper who has been capped 26 times by his country. He is expected to challenge David de Gea for the number one spot at Old Trafford.

The signings of Fernandes and Onana are a sign that Manchester United are serious about rebuilding the team. Ten Hag will be hoping that they can help the club challenge for trophies in the years to come.
