Messi Named Inter Miami Captain Ahead of Atlanta United Clash

Lionel Messi has been confirmed as the new captain of Inter Miami ahead of their Leagues Cup tie against Atlanta United on Tuesday. The Argentine superstar was named captain by Inter Miami head coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino on Monday. Messi made his debut for Inter Miami on Friday, coming off the bench to score a stoppage-time free-kick in a 2-1 win over Cruz Azul. He will now wear the captain's armband for the first time in his second appearance for the club.

Messi's appointment as captain is a major boost for Inter Miami. The 34-year-old is one of the greatest players of all time, and his leadership will be invaluable as the club looks to build on their recent success. Messi is also a global icon, and his presence will help to raise the profile of Inter Miami both in the United States and around the world.

Inter Miami are currently in second place in their group in the Leagues Cup, with three points from their first two games. They will need to win their remaining game against Atlanta United to guarantee their place in the knockout stages of the tournament. Messi's presence will give them a major chance of doing so.

The match against Atlanta United will be played at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
